Just A Quick Word… – GardenRant

I’m not expecting many people will read this.

Hopefully people are enjoying the company of friends and family. However there will be people who, for whatever reason, won’t be quite so blessed this year.

Many cultures in the northern hemisphere celebrate festivals at this low point of winter, and have done so for centuries. It’s a dark time and inevitably it can make us a bit glum; celebrations mean so much more in hard times. I know the short days, so often grey and gloomy, really get me down (remember I am in the UK…!).

Spring is coming.

Winter can be a magical time for gardeners. There are some winter flowers to enjoy, and winter can also be a time of peace and tranquillity in the garden; if conditions are too bad for gardening then you have no choice but to leave the garden alone. Winter is also a time to spend looking at pictures of other people’s gardens, online and in books, dreaming of the joyous summer to come.

To those enjoying this season I wish you great joy. To those enduring difficult times I wish you great comfort.

We must all still endure the winter to come, but I’m really looking forward to sharing the joy of the coming spring with you all.
