While the 1984 Ecto-1 makes its fifth starring role in a Ghostbusters movie, the iconic Cadillac will have a sidekick in the upcoming ‘Frozen Empire’ film. In U.S. theaters on March 22, a loaded-down Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, named ECTO-Z, will help save the world from a second ice age.

“The Sprinter is the perfect companion to the iconic Ecto-1 for our new Ghostbusters engineering team. How else are they gonna lug a bunch of proton packs around New York City, and do it in style?” said Gil Kenan, director of “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.”

With a now-massive cast of ghost fighters, the latest installment of the Ghostbusters franchise needed a vehicle that could haul more people and more gear than the famous Ecto-1 Cadillac. This is where the Mercedes-Benz ECTO-Z Sprinter van comes into play.

The ECTO-Z looks like a normal black delivery van with some Ghostbusters logos on it from the outside. Inside, it is loaded with ghost fighting equipment, mounted on a special pull-out rack. The rack features a bunch of “Proton Packs, Ghost Traps, and Muon Scrubbers.”

Surprisingly, the ECTO-Z doesn’t appear to be either the new eSprinter or the latest AWD version of the van. Instead, it looks to be a 2WD 144″ 2500 high-roof, single rear-wheel cargo van.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Hitting the big screen in theaters on March 22, 2024, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” is once again set in New York City. In this installment of the ghost fighting franchise, the cast of the original and modern films join forces to “save the world from a second ice age.” You’ll see stars Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts in the film.

The basic plot of the new film has the Spengler family teaming up with the OG Ghostbusters, who have “developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level.” This motley crew must battle an army of ghosts that have cast a death chill upon NYC after being unleashed from an ancient artifact.
